Cultivating Curiosity: The Art and Science of Wonder

Start your college experience with a unique opportunity to meet fellow first-year students with shared interests and learn from Washington College faculty this summer!

Explore what it means to be curious in this online class featuring faculty from across the Washington College campus. Spend time in conversation with professors from the sciences, arts, humanities, and social sciences, investigating the question "What's the value of curiosity?"

This online, synchronous course will be made up of panel presentations, small group discussions in breakout rooms, and out of class reading and writing assignments that will prepare you for the academic expectations at Washington College.

Additionally, classes will include practical information about life at Washington College, such as how to participate in discussions, work with professors to get your questions answered, navigate online learning tools like Canvas and Self-Service, and balance wellness and personal development in the earliest weeks of college.

The course is pass/fail and will not use formal textbooks, instead featuring popular articles and media for smart audiences. Cultivating Curiosity: The Art and Science of Wonder is worth one credit, so you will enter the College with a head start toward your requirements.
