    Incoming students who wish to be considered for the Richard L. Harwood Scholarship are required to complete the form below and submit the required essay by the prescribed deadline.

    Eligibility & Submission Guidelines

    Incoming first-year students with demonstrated talent in journalistic writing or nonfiction writing about public affairs are encouraged to apply. To be considered, applicants must submit an original essay that reflects their abilities in these areas.

    Please note: Recipients are strongly encouraged to engage in academic or co-curricular opportunities connected to journalism, public affairs, or publishing—such as Journalism, Editing & Publishing courses or participation in The Elm, the Washington College newspaper—though no major or minor in these areas is required to maintain the scholarship.
