2020 Young Historian's Summer Conference

The Young Historians’ Conference gives high school students a behind-the-scenes look at the many ways we make history—and a chance to discover how they can do it, too! This year’s theme, History Off the Page: Making the Past Present, provides an introduction to the many ways of studying history beyond the printed word. (Don’t get us wrong—we still love books, too!) Together with WC’s Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience, you’ll perform hands-on work with original archival documents, conduct oral history interviews, explore historic buildings and neighborhoods, view the Chesapeake landscape from the deck of a boat, and even travel to Washington, D.C., for a visit to the Smithsonian and a special tour of the U.S. Capitol.

You’ll have a unique opportunity to learn about an array of historical topics from Washington College faculty members and established authors, as well as from history undergrads following their intellectual passions. Throughout the program, you’ll live on the campus of the first American college established after the Revolutionary War—under the patronage of George Washington himself.

Program Fee: $700 (includes room and board)
